On Thursday the 18th, the IHS Model United Nations Club will be holding its first meeting! Model UN is a chance to learn more about world politics, engage in debate on world issues, and polish your speaking skills. At our first meeting, we will discuss Model UN field trips and conferences, procedure, and benefits. There will be snacks. Come to F5 on the 18th to learn more!

 

Seniors -- fall applications for the National Honor Society are now available in the main office for those who didn't apply to NHS in the spring. They are due Sept 19th, so pick yours up today. 

Juniors!

 

The PSAT exam will be given on Wednesday, October 15. All juniors are expected to take the PSAT exam, which is the practice exam for the SAT. Please sign up in the College and Career office and pick up a study guide.

 

Fashion Club will be meeting Thursday in D-7.

 

Come and join us. African Latino Club is having its first meeting this Thursday in room D5 at 3:45. It's the place to be. All are welcome.   

 

Google recommends webpages.  Netflix recommends movies.  Facebook recommends friends.  How does this work?  Come to the talk this Thursday at 5:30pm in H courtyard to converse with Doug Turnbull of Ithaca College about how these "recommender systems" are built using computer programming, a little bit of math, and a lot of creativity. You will also see a demo of a new personalized Internet radio system that is currently being developed at Ithaca College.   Everyone is welcome.  Thursday, September 18th from 5:30-6:30 pm in H courtyard. 

 

Have you noticed that our compost and trash bins look exactly the same? Are you frustrated about IHS’s lack of sustainable awareness? Perhaps the problem seems too daunting but in the IHS Green Team we are committed to solving the problem. Come to Green Team’s first meeting, Monday September 23 in Mr. Johnson’s room, H-104 to see what it’s all about and have some treats!

Come by H-206, Ms. Gefell’s room, next Monday the 22nd after school for our first meeting. We’ll have a guest speaker who’ll talk about some interesting volunteer opportunities and we’ll have food.

 

Sick of reading books for school? Check out Book Club! Our new members meeting is this Thursday, September 18 at 3:45 in G-213. Come eat snacks and help us think of books for the upcoming year. See you there!

 

Do you enjoy a good debate? Think you’re always right? Then come to our first debate club meeting after school this Monday, September 22 in H-213.

 

Do you ever feel like singing in the shower? Then come join Ithaca High School’s student run A Capella Club! Our first meeting is 8 a.m. in the choir room next Thursday, the 25th. No experience is needed and snacks will be provided. See you there!

 

The 5th annual LAFF Show benefits local performing arts groups. It will be Saturday, September 27 at 7 p.m. in Kulp Auditorium. Tickets are available on-line, at the door, or from B-3 in Activities for $12.
