Day 4
Seniors: Jostens will be in H-Courtyard today to deliver
caps and gowns.
Hey Students! You can sign up for this Saturday’s Dodge Ball
Tournament today in the cafeteria during lunch periods.
Students who are interested in running for leadership
positions (including Student Council officer, Class Officer, and Student
Representative to the Board of Education) should attend the mandatory Elections
Meeting on Wednesday, April 29 at 3:45 in H-Courtyard. This meeting is mandatory
for any student who wants his or her name on the elections ballot. If a student
is absolutely unable to attend, he or she must see Mr. Mellander on or before
April 28. Please email Mr. Mellander at kmelland@icsd.k12.ny.us with questions.
Landfills can take hundreds of
thousands of years to decompose, and can create long-lasting water and air
pollution if not taken care of properly. In 2013, the US put 69% of its waste
into landfill. However, we also recycled almost one quarter of our total waste
for the year, and composted 7%. Countries such as Austria managed to recycle up
to 70% of their wastes, and landfilled less than 5%! This is a huge
achievement, and it shows the potential we have in the US to decrease our own
air and water pollution. Recycling is a great improvement, but reducing our
waste production is the most effective solution. If you want to make a
difference, start small. Take reusable water bottles around instead of plastic
ones, and next time you finish a soda, recycle it! If you’re interested in
doing more to reduce IHS’ waste production, come to a Green Team meeting Monday
after school in H-104. Hope to see you there!
